Setting up a custom domain for your portal

Configure a custom vanity URL for your Atomicwork portal to align with your company branding.

Atomicwork allows you to configure a custom vanity URL for your portal, such as support.yourcompany.com, instead of using the default address, such as company.atomicwork.com. This helps align the portal with your organization's branding and builds trust with employees.

Configure a custom vanity URL

You can set up a custom domain from your organization settings. This process involves generating specific DNS records in Atomicwork and adding them to your domain provider's settings.

  1. Navigate to Settings > [Organization] General > Domains.

Your default Atomicwork URL is displayed onscreen. This URL remains active and available even after a custom domain is configured.

  2. Click Add your domain and enter your desired domain, such as help.acme.com.

  3. Atomicwork generates unique CNAME and TXT records for your tenant.

Update your DNS records

Once you have the records from Atomicwork, add them to your company's DNS configuration to verify ownership and point traffic correctly.

  1. Log in to your DNS provider, such as GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or Route 53.

  2. Navigate to the DNS management section for your domain.

  3. Add the CNAME record provided by Atomicwork.

  4. Add the TXT record provided by Atomicwork.

Detailed instructions for common DNS providers are often available within your provider's help center.

Verification and SSL provisioning

After updating your DNS records, Atomicwork periodically checks the configuration. The status indicators update as follows:

  • Pending DNS: The system is waiting for the DNS records to propagate and be detected.
  • Pending SSL: Once DNS is verified, the system automatically provisions an SSL certificate for your domain. This is handled through Let's Encrypt and auto-renews.
  • Connected: The portal is now accessible through HTTPS at your custom vanity URL.

If your domain is stuck in Pending DNS or Pending SSL for longer than expected, or you hit a certificate error, see Custom domain: Troubleshooting.

If validation fails, such as because of missing records or expired SSL, the system displays an error message. In these cases, the portal automatically falls back to the default Atomicwork URL to prevent downtime.

Update or delete a vanity URL

Each tenant can configure only one vanity URL at a time.

  • To delete: Click the three dots icon to remove the vanity URL configuration at any time. Traffic instantly reverts to the default Atomicwork URL.
  • To update: First delete the existing vanity URL, then configure a new one by following the steps above.
