## Connect the BambooHR MCP server

Integrate the BambooHR MCP server to give AI Coworkers secure access to your HR data and actions.

Integrate the BambooHR MCP server with Atomicwork to give your AI Coworkers access to a wide range of BambooHR actions and tools. This allows your AI Coworkers to securely read and interact with your organization's HR data.

### Review prerequisites

To connect the BambooHR MCP server, you need the following permissions:

- **Atomicwork admin access:** You need organization admin access in Atomicwork.
- **BambooHR admin access:** You need an admin account or a dedicated service-user account with the right access level. A BambooHR API key only has access to what the user who created it can see, so an admin account ensures Atomicwork can read full HR data.

### Generate a BambooHR API key

Follow these steps to create the API key required for the integration:

1. Log in to BambooHR using an admin account.
2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select **API Keys** from the dropdown menu. Alternatively, navigate to **Settings > Account > API Keys**.
3. Click **Add New Key**.
4. Enter a name for the key (for example, "Atomicwork MCP") and click **Generate Key**.
5. Copy the key immediately. BambooHR displays the key only once, and if you lose it, you must generate a new one.

### Connect the BambooHR MCP server

Follow these steps to set up the integration in your workspace:

1. Navigate to **Settings > MCP Store > BambooHR** in your Atomicwork workspace.
2. Click on the BambooHR tile and select **Connect**.
3. Paste your copied key into the **API Key** field.
4. Enter your **Subdomain**. This is the specific part of your BambooHR login URL before the domain. For example, if you access BambooHR at `https://acmecorp.bamboohr.com`, your subdomain is `acmecorp`. Do not include the `https://` or `.bamboohr.com` portions.
5. Click **Test** to confirm the credentials work correctly.
6. Click **Connect** to complete the setup. Once finished, a list of all available BambooHR tools is displayed on your screen.

### Configure agent access

After the setup is complete, you can control which tools your AI Coworkers can use. In addition to standard agents, the Admin Assist workflow builder and the coding agent also have access to the MCP server while building workflows and writing code scripts respectively.

1. Navigate to **Settings > AI workforce > AI Coworkers > Tools**.
2. Grant granular or complete access to the available BambooHR tools based on your workspace requirements.
